If you’ve been using Instagram lately, then you’ve probably noticed “Stories” at the top of your Newsfeed. If you’re already in “the know” and use SnapChat, then Instagram Stories will be fairly familiar to you.
What are Instagram Stories and How Can You Use them?
Instagram explains Stories as “a way of sharing photos and videos with your followers that disappear after 24 hours.”
If you’re a business owner there are several ways you can use Instagram stories but here are some of my best practices:
1. Announce a Sale: Stories are the perfect outlet for letting your audience know that you have a special offer. One thing that is certain is that people don’t like the feeling of being “sold to,” so stories helps you to sell your products and services more subtly. The key to announcing a sale is to have a great graphic that will make people want to take a look. However, if you are really trying to push a product or service you can post it to your account as well as your story for maximum exposure.
2. Show A Look Behind the Scenes: One way to help your audience get to know you better is to post behind the scenes snapshots of your life. You can post videos of a day in the life, as the business owner or you can show part of your operations.
3. Entice Customers with Updates. Keep your audience in suspense with teasers. One benefit to using stories is that you can post as many updates or stories you want. For example, if you have a new book coming out you can take a picture of the cover and then some pages in between and highlight the things you want you people to pay attention to.
Now do you see why you should be using this tool as much as possible? One thing I’ve learned is that you actually get exposure to people who aren’t following you when you post stories (similar to the way the Explore page works on Instagram). I used this get website signups for one of my clients and I saw 3X the clicks (compared to the previous day that I had not used it).
